From Birdsong to Bog Swimming,

White Nights, Wild Forests & Silence

Estonia’s Hiking Paradise, not just a destination. a different way to experience nature. Wilderness is not far away. It begins just outside the city.

Uuejärve Matkapesa is located in Kõrvemaa – a protected nature area next to Lahemaa National Park, just about an hour from Tallinn. Only 6 km away lies Aegviidu, known as Estonia’s “hiking capital”, easily reachable by train.  Perfect for: a day escape from the city or a multi-day deep nature immersion.   Here, at Kõrvemaa Landscape Reserve – a rare and diverse natural area where Estonia reveals a different face. Instead of flat terrain, you’ll find rolling eskers, deep forests, hidden lakes, and vast bog systems that create a truly unique landscape

Here, you are surrounded by:

  • Protected forests rich in biodiversity

  • A network of hiking and health trails

  • Over 10 different bog systems within reach

  • Rare wildlife: owls, , capercaillie, eagles

👉 This is what makes Estonia unique: true wilderness that is accessible, authentic, and uncrowded

🌸 SPRING – The Awakening of Life

Spring in Estonia is not just a season –
it is a sudden explosion of life, sound, and light.

Before the leaves appear, landscapes open wide.
Birdsong fills the mornings, and floodwaters reshape the rivers.   As weeks pass, spring deepens: Forest floors covered in flowers, up to 50 shades of green emerging, longer days invite longer journeys.  Spring is about awakening – and learning to notice.

✨ What makes spring unique:

  • Intense dawn chorus – one of Europe’s richest bird soundscapes

  • Open views across forests and wetlands

  • Seasonal flooding – a rare and dynamic landscape

  • First wild flavours emerging from the forest

🥾 How to experience it:

  • Dawn hikes & birdsong experiences

  • Active or gentle walking hikes

  • Sunrise hikes with wild swimming

  • 🌊 Soodla River spring paddling
    Glide quietly through flooded landscapes
→ Spot beavers, birds, even moose

  • 🌿 Forest food walks
Taste spring through: fresh buds, young shoots, spring mushrooms

☀️ EARLY SUMMER – Endless Light & Warm Waters

Early summer in Estonia feels almost unreal.
Light stretches late into the night, and nature reaches full energy. And nature offers its first gifts: wild strawberries, cloudberries and wild raspberries.  This is the season of light, freedom, and deep presence.

✨ What makes it unique:

  • White Nights – when darkness barely arrives

  • Naturally warm bog lakes (dark water absorbs heat)

  • Lush greenery and long, slow evenings

🥾 How to experience it:

  • Long-distance hikes in forests and bogs

  • Swimming in bog lakes – calm, warm, and surreal

  • Sunset & sunrise hikes in golden light

  • 🌙 Overnight nature stays

    • hammock camping

    • forest camps

    • sleeping under the Nordic sky

  • 🔥 Campfire evenings with local food

HIGH SUMMER – Movement, Bogs & Wild Harvest

By July, nature is rich, full, and generous.  In countryside we spend our days by berry picking (blueberries, lingonberries), mushroom foraging, enjoying misty bog mornings and campfire evenings under starry skies. Also meteor showers and shooting stars are visible.

✨ What makes it unique:

  • Abundant wild food

  • Warm water and long active days

  • A perfect balance of adventure and comfort

🥾 How to experience it:

  • 🥾 Bog hikes & bog swimming → walk across open landscapes → swim in hidden bog pools

  • 🍯 Cloudberry picking experiences

  • 🌊 SUP tours at sunset → peaceful, golden-hour paddling

August – Estonia’s Hiking Month

✨ Why it’s special:

  • Fewer insects → more комфорт in nature

  • Warm weather + softer light

  • Start of mushroom and berry season

🍂 AUTUMN – Harvest, Colours & Stillness

Autumn arrives slowly – and beautifully. The air changes.

This is the time for a proper mushroom hunt and bog hikes with a purpose – cranberry picking.
It’s also the season to notice bird migration, best experienced on longer, peaceful hikes.

As the days grow shorter, it becomes the perfect time to enjoy the darkening evenings with lantern hikes along narrow forest trails.

Evenings often end by the campfire or in the warmth of a sauna.
