Bogshoe Hiking Locations
Koitjärve Bog
This is a more wild and untouched landscape, where access is typically recommended with a guide.
From there, it is about a 15-minute walk along a narrow forest trail to reach the bog.
This option offers the most authentic bog experience. If swimming in a bog pool is planned, participants should be comfortable with entering and exiting the water on natural terrain, as there are no built access points.
Kõnnu Suursoo (near Paukjärv)
A popular hiking area and a favourite among visitors. The walk to the bog takes approximately 35 minutes. This location features a watchtower and is well suited for a lighter introduction to snowshoeing, with shorter distances on the bog itself. Swimming is possible in a bog pool near the boardwalk (no designated entry/exit points). As a bonus, there is also an opportunity to swim in Paukjärv lake, known for its clear water and sandy bottom.
Kakerdaja Bog
One of the most well-known bogs in Northern Estonia. From the parking area, it is about a 15-minute walk along a boardwalk to Kakerdaja lake, after which we continue the bog hike. This option is flexible, allowing us to adjust the length and difficulty of the hike. Swimming is possible both in Kakerdaja lake and in smaller bog pools. As with other locations, there are no designated entry/exit points in the bog pools. Nature conservation: Routes and off-trail access are planned according to protected-area regulations and seasonal restrictions. Alternative routes may be used when necessary.
5. Canoeing & SUP Adventures on the Soodla or Mustjõe Rivers
Two rivers, two different adventures – from an exciting wilderness challenge to a peaceful journey through nature.
Discover North Kõrvemaa from the water, surrounded by quiet forests, birdsong, beaver habitats and the beauty of Estonia's wild rivers. Depending on seasonal water levels and the group's preferences, we offer two distinctly different river experiences.
Soodla River – For Adventure Seekers
The Soodla River is a natural adventure course, perfect for guests who enjoy a little challenge and are ready to get their feet wet! Paddle through winding forest waterways, navigate fallen trees and natural obstacles, and occasionally step out of your canoe or SUP board to overcome challenges along the route. It's an active and playful experience where the river itself creates the adventure.
Best suited for: Adventurous travellers, active groups and those who enjoy physical challenges and unexpected discoveries.
Mustjõe River – For Nature Lovers
The Mustjõe River offers a gentler journey, ideal for guests who prefer to slow down and immerse themselves in nature. Glide along peaceful waterways, observe birds and beaver activity, and enjoy the surrounding forests without the need for significant physical effort or navigating challenging obstacles.
The journey ends at Mustjõe Kõrtsitalu, a traditional Estonian farmstead with a remarkable collection of historic buildings. It feels like stepping into an open-air museum – except that this is a living place, where people still live in and use the historic buildings today. Guests can explore the farmstead and, by prior arrangement, extend their experience with a floating sauna on the river – a wonderful way to relax after the adventure.
Best suited for: Nature lovers, families, relaxed groups and travellers interested in authentic Estonian rural life and local heritage.
